Rajamäen Rykmentti

Introduction

Rajamäen Rykmentti is orienteering club active in Nurmijärvi municipality. The club was founded in 1937 and has approximately 350 members. Over two hundred of the members are competing under SSL (Finnish Orienteering Federation)-licence.

The goal of Rajamäen Rykmentti is to offer conditions to learn basics of orienteering activities as well as give a professional training for the world-class athletes in the area of North-Uusimaa and Nurmijärvi.

Junior’s orienteering

The aim of Rajamäen Rykmentti’s Junior’s orienteering is to give youth from 7 to 16 years an opportunity to have fun among the orienteering whether they want to have orienteering as a nice hobby or to compete in junior series.

Every spring the club runs an orienteering school for children, which gathers a group of new children interested in orienteering and gives them a chance to join the club. The club gives juniors professional training and they are also encouraged to participate in competitions.

Fitness orienteering

Already over a decade there have been regular activities for the members interested in fitness orienteering. The club arranges more than twenty fitness orienteering events during a season. Amount of participants in these events has risen evenly year after year.

In 2005 there were altogether almost 3200 events (iltarastit) in Nurmijärvi. Everyone interested in orienteering are welcome to participate these events. In connection with the training events there is also guidance for beginners available.

Training/Coaching

The club has a training teams for womens, mens and juniors. Men’s and women’s training teams form a team called RR-team. Altogether training teams include about 30 athletes. The goal for the RR-team is to gain success in a personal level and in relay competitions. Training methods consists of training camps, training days, test runs, technique trainings and personal training.

Competitions

Rajamäen Rykmentti has arranged many large national orienteering competitions. The most memorable of those, is Jukolan Viesti (relay of Jukola) in year 1981. Next opportunity to experience something remarkable and exciting will be in year 2010 when the club arranges again the Jukola-relay. Every second spring the club arranges also Uudenmaan rastipäivät. Besides that the club will arrange Finnish Champions in years 2006 and 2008.
